{"id":44,"date":"2009-05-15T11:53:55","date_gmt":"2009-05-15T15:53:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.patrickrunfit.com\/s603\/?p=44"},"modified":"2009-05-15T11:53:55","modified_gmt":"2009-05-15T15:53:55","slug":"rss-feeds-and-blogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.patrickrunfit.com\/s603b\/?p=44","title":{"rendered":"RSS Feeds and Blogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was a busy day in class where we explored both RSS Feeds and Blogs.\u00a0 The two items are synomous with each other.\u00a0 When creating the RSS Feed we took an example RSS Feed and edited to point to a resume or another online doucment.\u00a0 RSS stands for Really Simple Syndictaion and it comes in two flavours RSS 2.0 and RSS 1.0.\u00a0 Atom is a third standard to create a feed.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the samle RSS Feed that we used yesterday evening to edit:<\/p>\n<p>&lt;?xml version=&#8221;1.0&#8243; rel=&#8221;self&#8221; type=&#8221;application\/rss+xml&#8221; \/&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;title&gt;Patrick Patterson&lt;\/title&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;link&gt;http:\/\/www.patrickrunfit.com&lt;\/link&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;description&gt;My personal website&lt;\/description&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;item&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;title&gt;Resume&lt;\/title&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;link&gt;http:\/\/patrickrunfit.com\/resume.html&lt;\/link&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;description&gt;Patricks Resume&lt;\/description&gt;<\/p>\n<p>&lt;\/item&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;\/channel&gt;<br \/>\n&lt;\/rss&gt;<\/p>\n<p>The feed is located at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.patrickrunfit.com\/s603\/patrick.xml\">http:\/\/www.patrickrunfit.com\/s603\/patrick.xml<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"attribute-value\">Inside the item tags in the name of a story that is made up of the feed.\u00a0 When looking at the feed in conjunction with a Blog the link and title that appears just below the channel element would be the name of the blog.\u00a0 The item relates to each post that you make to your blog.<\/span><br \/>\nBlogs can be used by one individual or several other people.\u00a0 A blog is essentially a Content Management System (CMS) consisting of three main components.\u00a0 The components are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Database &#8211; the database is the back end where all of the information is stored.<\/li>\n<li>Programming Language &#8211; is considered to be the middle layer that interacts between the interface and the database<\/li>\n<li>Interface &#8211; it is what we use to set up and configure the appearance of the blog<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In class we used a self hosted Word Press blog as a group in which people were given different roles.\u00a0 Word Press consists of the following roles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Admin<\/li>\n<li>Editor<\/li>\n<li>Author<\/li>\n<li>Subscriber<\/li>\n<li>Contributor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most CMS systems that I have used have some system of roles that determine what access you may or may not have within the system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was a busy day in class where we explored both RSS Feeds and Blogs.\u00a0 The two items are synomous with each other.\u00a0 When creating the RSS Feed we took an example RSS Feed and edited to point to a &hellip;
