How to Create a Mashup Using Google Maps
This workshop was developed for people who are curious about how technology can be used to offer new services to patrons in a variety of creative ways. The workshop is hands on in nature giving participants the opportunity to combine several different types of technology that are considered to be web 2.0 into a web page that wild bel created during the workshop. The goal of the workshop is to give people the opportunity to create a mashup that can be used as a model for future reference and/or to directly incorporate the mashup into a library web site. This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about a variety of different types of mashups that have been created and explore how you can combine different services together that you are currently offering to library patrons.

Blurring the Line: Using blogging software as a communication tool or website
This workshop was developed for people who are interested in learning about how a blog could be used as a communication tool, website,and/or both to offer new services to patrons in a variety of creative ways. The workshop will be hands on in nature where people will have the opportunity to create a blog that can be used as a future model for providing information to your library community. One of the underlining themes of the workshop is to start a discussion on how we can use technology to become more efficient and enhance the services that can be offered to people. Technology gives us the opportunity to communicate with people who use the libraries we work at in new and exciting ways. During the workshop we will be doing a variety of different things from discussing how a blog works to using a self-hosted WordPress blog as a community. During the first part of the workshop we will explore a variety of different items on the web and try to answer the question "Is it a Blog or a Website?". Next we will briefly talk about RSS/Atom Feeds and how they are related to blogs. The majority of the workshop will be dedicated to creating a blog using a variety of different free online software platforms, such as Blogger, Live Journal, My Opera, Tumblr etc. After creating a blog as an individual we will then use a self-hosted WordPress blog as a group; giving participants the opportunity to explore what it is like to create content as a group for a blog.
